Elder Scrolls VI 'Sentinel' Report: Hammerfell Setting
Report, not an announcement: The Elder Scrolls VI is reportedly called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, set in the desert province of Hammerfell, with Bethesda expected to reveal only the name in November. That is the claim in a new report from The Verge's Tom Warren, citing sources familiar with Bethesda's plans. Neither Bethesda nor Microsoft has confirmed any of it, and no trailer, gameplay, release date or platform list is expected alongside the name.
- Tom Warren of The Verge reports the full title is The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, based on sources familiar with Bethesda's plans.
- The reveal could come in November, possibly on 11 November, the 15th anniversary of Skyrim — but Warren expects only a name, nothing more.
- The game is reportedly set in Hammerfell, and its story is said to centre on the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves.
- Nothing here is confirmed: Bethesda has said nothing public about the game since its 2018 teaser beyond the fact that it is in development.
- Sentinel is also a Redguard kingdom and port city on the Iliac Bay, which fits the coastline shown in the 2018 teaser.
What is The Elder Scrolls VI reportedly called?
The reported title is The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Warren writes in his Notepad newsletter, published 29 October, that sources familiar with Bethesda's plans told him the publisher is about to announce the
game under that name. The report has been relayed by VGC, Push Square, Inven Global and others, but all of them trace back to the same single source: Warren's newsletter. Until Bethesda or Xbox says the name itself, Sentinel should be treated as a well-sourced report, not a fact.
The name did not come out of nowhere for fans. In August, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma posted about watching a live playthrough of the game, praised its scale, and wrote that the story is even greater — while writing the title as "The Elder Scrolls VI:" followed by eight masked characters. Fans counted eight characters and landed on Sentinel. Former Bethesda writer Michael Kirkbride later replied "Yep" to a Reddit post pushing the theory, though he no longer speaks for the studio, so that is not confirmation either.
When could Bethesda reveal the name?

The reveal could come as soon as November, possibly timed to 11 November, when The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim turns 15 years old. That date is the report's reasoning, not a confirmed announcement date, and Warren is explicit about the scope: he expects only a name reveal next month and nothing more. Do not expect a trailer, gameplay footage, a release window or a platform list with it. Earlier rumours have pointed to 2028 as a release window, while another floated a surprise shadow-drop, and neither has any official backing.
If the timing holds, it would be the first official word on the game in eight years. Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 2018 with a 36-second teaser of mountains and a coastline, and has shown nothing of it since. A title-only reveal would fit a studio that has repeatedly said it will talk about the game when it is ready, and it would give Bethesda a news moment on Skyrim's anniversary without committing to anything else.
Where is Sentinel reportedly set?

The reported setting is Hammerfell, the Redguard homeland on Tamriel's west coast. Players last explored it in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard in 1998, and more recently in The Elder Scrolls Online, and it also featured in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. Sentinel itself is one of Hammerfell's largest cities, a port on the Iliac Bay, the stretch of water between Hammerfell and High Rock that fans have long theorised as the game's location. One caution from VGC's coverage: the setting is not expected to be revealed alongside the title, so treat the Hammerfell detail as a report to be confirmed, not as part of the November announcement.
The setting also fits the one piece of official material that exists. The 2018 teaser's coastline and mountains have fuelled eight years of map detective work, and a coastal Hammerfell setting around Iliac Bay has been a fan favourite throughout. A full-scale return to Hammerfell would give Bethesda a region with deep established lore to build on, including the Redguard kingdoms, the Alik'r Desert and the politics of the Iliac Bay.
What is the story reportedly about?
Warren reports that Sentinel will be the first game about the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves, and will help uncover the secrets of the mysterious ancient artifacts the series is named after. That is a striking claim for a series in which the Scrolls have mostly stayed in the background for three decades, and it is also the part of the report with the least independent support: it comes from the same sourcing as the title, and no second outlet has independently confirmed the story direction. Treat it as the most interesting and the least certain part of the report.
What is firmer is that the game exists and is playable in some form behind closed doors. Sharma's August playthrough is the most recent public evidence of that, and her praise for its scale lines up with a project Bethesda has been building toward for years. Everything beyond that — the title, the setting, the story focus, the date — is still, for now, a report waiting on Bethesda.
